Stevie Wonder Concert @ Turning Stone Casino Resort, Verona, NY

Stevie Wonder... he himself is a gigantic music box.
Without playing piano, without singing, he can rock you only by being there.
It was such a great concert.
He played more than two and half hours, but it just felt like 30 mins.
With her daughter, Aisha Morris, his performance was filled with love.

Airdate of our documentary!!! NHK

In mid-September, I produced a Japanese Taiko drumming event in Upstate NY.
The project is called "SEN & HIBIKI Upstate NY Tour 2009 Taiko History~To the Future of Music and Disabilities~".
The documentary of the event was filmed by NHK, Japan's national public broadcasting organization.
The air date was announced just today!!

Program Name: Social Service Network
Title: Documentary "Funky Taiko beats in NY"
Premier: October 6, 2009 (TUE) 8PM on NHK Educational TV(Channel 3 in Tokyo area)
Rebroadcast: October 13, 2009(TUE) 1:20PM on the same as above

In Japan, challenged people are still considered as the socially vulnerable and their disabilities themselves always get focused over their personalities above all.
Ryota Kataoka, a professional Taiko drummer and one of our members, is such a great personnel and beautifully talks about his dream.
So, we have become brothers.
He is completely blind, but it is a mere accident for me and it is not a special thing at all.
The fact that he cannot see is the same thing for me as I cannot play drums as well as he can.
When he needs to go somewhere, our members place his hand onto their shoulders and lead him. When he is looking for a stick dropped onto floor, we simply lead his hand to it. When we miss our beats while playing, he naturally covers us up.

A person who needs help gets it from others who can provides it.

It is as simple as it says.

We hope our activity encourages people not only in Japan but also all over the world!!
Please share the information of the program with your friends and family!!
It is worth to watch!!

The program will not be broadcast on Japan TV, unfortunately.
So, if you are in the states, the recommended way to watch Japanese TV programs is to subscribe to Wist.

The start of Taikonnection

Greetings to everybody!
I'm Masa, an entomologist and a Taiko enthusiast. From Tokyo, and I currently reside in Upstate NY and study Insect Ecology. Taikonnection is a coined word, Taiko + connection.
What is the greatest asset a person can have? "Human connection" I say without hesitation. Everybody I have encountered in my life has helped me to get closer to a true free thinker with sharing different perspectives and thoughts. Without them, I would never have been able to develop an appreciation of difference. And, Taiko empowered me a lot to seek for it. On this blog, I would like to share my thoughts on people, culture, science, agriculture and life.
