For the upcoming charity concert, we are preparing a piece for the first premiere performance. The piece is called Shin-yataibayashi, written by my master Shintaro Sendo. Yataibayashi is a popular traditional piece from Chichibu-city, Saitama prefecture. Although the piece is very old and traditional, Master Sendo arranged it modernistic by fusing it with another traditional piece, Sawara bayashi from Katori-city, Chiba prefecture. Two old traditions meet and they evolve into something completely new and modern.
I had given a wide berth to the piece for a long time although I always loved the piece. Simply because, the piece was difficult and I could not capture the true meaning of the arrangement. Now that I can play the piece (in a way, and not in many ways), I started to see them. The piece has great depth. The more I play, the more I see how deep it is. Although I cannot reach the bottom, I would like to share this experience with audience as much as I can.

１７日のチャリティーコンサートのために、ある曲の準備をしている。我が師、仙堂新太郎氏による新屋台囃子という曲だ。ちょっと太鼓をかじっている人にとっては、屋台囃子と言えば、埼玉県秩父市の秩父夜祭りで打たれる秩父屋台囃子だと分かる。師匠はこの伝統曲秩父屋台囃子に、もう一つの伝統曲である佐原囃子を出会わせることで、全く新しいモダンな曲を作りあげた。
大好きな曲だが、あまり演奏をしてこなかった。難しいのである。それゆえ、演奏することに手一杯で、曲の解釈まで至ることができなかった。日本を離れてから５年、本業の傍らまとまった練習ができているわけでは全くないが、様々な機会で太鼓を打たせてもらう中で、確実に経験値は増えている。そして、気付けば、それなりに余裕を持ってこの難曲を演奏できるようになった。こうなると、打てば打つ程に、この曲の深み、何故佐原囃子との融合をはかったのか（これには実は明確な理由があることを師匠には聞いている）、配置されている一音一音のからみと間など、果たして知ることができるのかと思う程の意味が込められていることが分かってきた。満足に、その意味を伝えられるとは思えないが、今は、この曲を聴衆とぜひ分かち合いたいと思う。
